The new job in Switzerland

I started searching for a new job while I was sitting in my cubicle in the US and concurrently looking for bugs in Pinnacle Studio. My goal was to have a new job in my pocket before I was back in Germany. At least I wanted to have some job interviews that I am not sitting at home without any clue what to do next.
My application was online on monster.com and several other job boards. Then I was applying 3 times and I got promptly messages of those. We arranged appointments for interviews for the first week when I am back in Germany.

Well, I went back to Germany and was successfully fighting against my jetlack. It was pretty easy this time because I took 3 sleeping pills in the airplane and I could sleep like a baby ;)
Back in Germany and I knew a new chapter in my life was beginning to start. I don't know how long I will be here and I don't know where I will be next but I know that I want to work as a software developer in an international acting company.

On wednesday I drove down to Zurich to my first interview with Swisscom. The job was about creating interfaces for services of the whole switzerlandish telecommunication market. I met the department manager and a woman of the HR and we were talking about the position in reference to my background and we found that my skills and the positions requirements were fitting pretty well.

Thursday I had my second interview in Zurich. Technical Decision Day at Accenture, the biggest consulting firm worldwide. We were a couple of guys and girls applying for different jobs and they promissed us that we might get all a job because the demand for good employees at this time is very high. We would be tested and when our skills are convenient enough we would be hired. First thing of the day was an introduction into the company and their fields. The next thing was a group assignment which was a simple design question for a new centralized web-based employee timesheet system. Our group was a mix of people who never did something like this before and also more experienced ones. We collaborated very good and we made the task in time and the staff of Accenture was satisfied. After that assignment we had to fill out an individual written multiple choice test for the field of everones expertise. My test was about Java, someone else was writing about information management. The test was pretty simple but sometimes tricky because you never thought during your studies that someone will ever ask you about this stuff again. But I was doing pretty well. This year I have to solve several of these tests at interviews with Google or IBM. I think that it is very useful to figure out who is able to solve an assignment in the real job life. The tests are not about having the right answer at anytime, they are about to show the way of solving a problem. After the test we had lunch together. This is also a test: socializing, conversations, manners etc.
In the afternoon we had several individual interviews and in the end we got a feedback and maybe an offer.
I got an offer and I was pretty happy about it.

Friday I was in Graubuenden to my 3rd interview with Teufel Solutions. Teufel is developing software for Trumph and is also doing business with SAP. The interview was mostlikely like the one on wednesday and run very smoothly. I got a job offer in the end of the conversation.

Now I had 3 job offers and 1 decission to make.
I evaluated the companies and the assignments I will have to solve and finally I decided to sign the contract for Accenture because I am very interested in the field of Information management and Business intelligence. The salary is pretty good for me and appropriate enough for Zurich. I will start working in November and am very excited to see how it is going further.

I'll keep you posted about my carrier in Switzerland from now on and hope you enjoy reading about my experiences.
